Incubate Joins Punchbowl News, Rep. Greg Murphy to Discuss the Future of Medicine

On June 24, Incubate executive director John Stanford joined Punchbowl News for a discussion on the future of medicine. The culmination of a partnership on the topic between Incubate and Punchbowl News, the event brought together influential voices from across government, media, and venture capital to examine how public policy and private investment shape the development of next-generation treatments. Speakers included Representative Greg Murphy (R-NC); Janis Naeve, venture partner at Cota Capital; and Anna Palmer, CEO of Punchbowl News.

During the conversation, Stanford emphasized that "science is no longer the barrier" for medical progress -- what's needed now is the political will to maintain U.S. leadership, investment, and research in biotechnology. Rep. Murphy, a co-sponsor of the bipartisan Ensuring Pathways to Innovative Cures (EPIC) Act, spoke on the need to undo Medicare's pill penalty: "Let small molecules be on the same playing field as biologics."
