Incubate Executive Director Joins The Hill's Roundtable on the EPIC Act

On March 26, Incubate executive director John Stanford joined a roundtable discussion hosted by The Hill and the Alliance for Aging Research on the Ensuring Pathways to Innovative Cures (EPIC) Act and how it would fix the pill penalty in the Inflation Reduction Act.

The conversation, moderated by The Hill's national political reporter Julia Manchester, featured Rep. Don Davis (D-NC) and speakers from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, the Schizophrenia & Psychosis Action Alliance, the Cancer Support Community, and other healthcare and life sciences organizations.

Participants explored how the pill penalty is impacting medical innovation, including halted research and development. Incubate's Life Science Investment Tracker accounts for 49 research programs and 24 drugs that have been discontinued since the pill penalty was passed into law, including many in oncology. Companies like Pfizer, Novartis, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Roche have scaled back small-molecule oncology drug development.
